Beards Men's Grooming

What Is No Shave November?

No Shave November is a non-profit organization devoted to growing cancer awareness and supportive funds that go towards preventing the disease, saving lives, funding research, educating, and aiding those fighting the battle. The No-Shave November campaign started November 2009 on Facebook with under 50 participants. Today, thousands of people around the globe join the fight against cancer and put down their razors for the month of November. More than one million people in the US  get cancer each year. Whether you have cancer or someone close to you does, understanding what to expect can help tremendously.

What Is No Shave November?

The goal of No-Shave November is to grow awareness by embracing facial or body hair, which many cancer patients lose, by letting it grow wild and free. Guys donate money they would usually spend on shaving and grooming for a month to help educate others, save lives, and aid those fighting the cancer battle. It’s an easy and fun way to rally behind an important cause, and opens up 4 dedicated weeks of the year when we’re encouraged to talk about important matters. Your time and donation will help spread awareness, and raise funds to fight the battle on a global level.

However, this event is often confused with another notable charity, Movember, which supports men’s mental health and testicular cancer. Men specifically grow their best mustaches during the month of November; whereas women can participate in No Shave November by forfeiting their waxing or shaving routines. The key difference between the two events is that Movember focuses on the “Mo” or Moustache. No Shave November focuses on being wild and free with your body hair, and not trimming at all – so expect to see thick, bushy beards and chests abound.

What You’ll Need

You might think that all you have to do is stop shaving, but unless you have beard growing experience under your belt, you may not enjoy the upcoming month as much as you might like. Growing a beard requires patience, more patience, and the right tools for comfort. The first week will be itchy, and is tempting for most guys to quit at, but these products can help sooth your skin and take you across the finishing line. As you’ll be forfeiting trimming during No Shave November it’s important to find ways to still look groomed and kempt.
