I had the pleasure of attending the world premiere of the new 2017 Mazda CX-5; the SUV you’re going to want all to yourself. This crossover SUV sees Mazda return with another big hitter. From the offset, this is a lust-worthy ride, featuring an oversized grille, updated front exterior, which growls rather than smiles, and choice of two engines (the Skyactiv 2.5-liter gasoline engine and the Skyactiv-D 2.2-liter diesel). However, no transmission info was detailed.
From around the room, audible gasps could be heard, and there was much applause. The highlight of the night was the new “red” Mazda crafted, which has an incredible depth of color – the shadows looked tangible. Once inside, I got to check out the all-new infotainment screen, which is conveniently perched on top of the dash with a control knob located aft of the shift lever, and got a ‘first sit’ in this grande SUV. The new 2017 Mazda CX-5 is as spacious as it is luxurious.
As part of this first-look, I got to hear how Mazda are shaping the future of their brand, and how they are continuing to work with top designers and engineers to create a uniquely human experience. The new 2017 Mazda CX-5 feels primal and injects the love of driving back into the front seat. I also got to see their new concept car, which hints at a new sports model coming soon. The CX-5 launches in Japan in February, followed by a global roll-out later in the spring.
