Remember the days as a kid when you use to run around outside, toss a few rocks, and jump around on trees. Now think back (we’ve all done it at one point or another, at least I remember doing it) on the time when you jumped in a muddy hole with your friends and just horsed around. Those were the fun old days, before we had emails, cell phones and flat screen TVs. But who said those days are over? People don’t realize how powerful and effective mud can be for their face. It not only draws out excess oils from your skin (reducing the chances of developing black and white heads), but it’s packed with minerals that help increase the circulation of your face (giving you a more youthful look), but it also draws out harmful toxins that can increase the signs of ageing.
The best thing about clay masks is that there are various types which have different effects on your skin, that it can be used by everyone regardless of their skin type.
- Rose clay, which has a pink tint to it- It’s great for people with normal to dry skin because it doesn’t draw out large masses of oil from your skin. It is infused with copper which is an awesome mineral that increases the circulation in your face; this will give you a more youthful appearance.
- White Kaolin Clay, also known as China or White Clay– This clay doesn’t draw out any oils from your face, which is great for people with dry and sensitive skin. It is the mildest of all the clays and it gently cleanses the skin and increases circulation.
- French green clay is the most rich and powerful of all the clays. It is packed with minerals and phyto-nutrients (Phyto-nutrients are nutrients derived from plant material that have been shown to be necessary for sustaining human life).- This form of clay also contains a lot of montmorillonite which is highly effective in drawing out excess oils and toxins from your skin. If you decide to use this clay, try not to use it more than twice a month, you don’t want to dry out your skin. This is not suitable for people with dry or sensitive skin.
You should try to use a clay mask about twice a month. Although for most clay mask products, they can be a bit on the expensive side, but they are well worth the investment. A small amount goes a long way and the benefits definitely outreach the price. As always, remember to wash your face before using any form of mask, and don’t forget to moisturize afterwards.
