Trimming your mustache is pretty simple, but maybe it seems daunting. Or maybe you just want to switch up how you do things or want to learn a better way. That’s why we’ve decided to break it down for you.
Here is a step by step guide for how to trim your mustache:
First, you’ll need a few things.
Mustache trimming supplies
- Mustache comb
- Mirror
- Mustache Trimmer
Now, here’s how it’s done
- Comb it. Make sure that your hair is dry, and comb through it with a fine-toothed mustache comb. If you trim your mustache when it is wet, you may trim off too much as hair appears longer when wet.
- Shape it. With the trimmer, get rid of any flyaways or other unsightly hair. Cut from the middle outwards, trimming hairs on the outer edges and bottom of your ‘stache. Make sure not to tilt your head all over the place when you are trimming. Face forward with your head straight up in order to keep your mustache even.
- Shorten it. Now comes the hard part: trimming the hair to your desired length. What you’ll want to do is pull the comb through your mustache again. This time, trim the hair that is on the outside of the comb. If you are holding the comb straight, you should be able to get an even cut. Again, make sure you are holding your head straight up so as to get an even cut. Also, cut off less hair in the beginning. You can always cut off more later if you wish (but you can’t grow it back right away if you cut off too much).
- Repeat. After you are satisfied with your trim, give your look a once over. Trim off any flyaways you may have missed.
That’s it!
Upkeep: You should trim your mustache once a week (could be more or less depending on how fast your hair grows).
