The Statue of Liberty was given to the United States by the French in 1885 and is named after Liberas, the Roman Goddess of Freedom. She holds a torch and tablet evoking American law, which is inscribed with the date of our country’s Declaration of Independence, July 4, 1776. The statue was officially dedicated a year later, on October 28, 1886 by President Grover Cleveland, and is a lasting image of America ever since. In fact, the dedication occurred 110 years after Sir Basil Hayden himself created the bourbon recipe that we use for Basil Hayden’s today!
