TOTAL® CEREAL AND MEN’S HEALTH MAGAZINE ANNOUNCE WINNER OF “TOTAL GUY, TOTAL PACKAGE” ONLINE CONTEST

Tom Hamrick of Dublin, Calif., Is Recognized and Honored

as the “Total Guy” Following Extensive Nationwide Search

NEW YORK and MINNEAPOLIS– July 30, 2013 – Total® Cereal and Men’s Health magazine partnered on a nationwide search to find the best example of an all-around guy, someone who eats right, works out and is active in his community. Today, they announce the official winner of the Total® Cereal and Men’s Health magazine “Total Guy, Total Package” online contest: Tom Hamrick, 43, of Dublin, Calif., has been selected as the “Total Guy” and will receive a trip for two to New York City, a feature in the September issue of Men’s Health, a personal session with a Men’s Health fitness and nutrition expert, and a year’s worth of Total Whole Grain Cereal, among other prizes.

“We’re thrilled to announce Tom as the 2013 ‘Total Guy,’” said Kim Seifert, associate marketing manager for Total Cereal. “Although it was difficult to select one winner from many exceptional candidates, Tom manages an impressive lifestyle characterized by proper nutrition, a strong fitness routine, a solid career, community giving and family time. He truly embodies the ‘Total Guy,’ and we’re looking forward to celebrating his accomplishments.”

“Our readers have shown great interest in this contest, from the submission period through the voting phase. It was truly inspiring to read about men who are eating well, making fitness a priority and engaging in their communities, all while balancing family, friends and work – these guys are certainly doing it all,” said Men’s Health Publisher Ronan Gardiner. “Tom exemplifies the Men’s Health reader, and we congratulate him.”

As a U.S. Navy veteran and vice president of his company’s veteran’s chapter, staying healthy is a way of life for Tom. His typical fitness week involves four days of core strength and conditioning, and two days of running – one for hill work and the other for distance. He’s completed multiple competitive challenges, including Tough Mudder® and Men’s Health URBANATHALON®. Tom maintains proper nutrition through healthy home-cooked meals, balanced with the occasional meal out with friends. Many of his “proud father” moments are brought on by his grown sons preparing meals he cooked for them when they were younger.

Even with a full-time position in the telecommunication industry, Tom volunteers with multiple nonprofits in his community, including the Sentinels of Freedom Scholarship Foundation, which provides scholarships to severely injured combat veterans, and helps them find work and adjust to civilian life.

It’s a huge honor to be titled the ‘Total Guy’ by Total Cereal and Men’s Health magazine, and I’m very grateful for this opportunity,” said Tom Hamrick. “As a father to three sons, I’ve chosen to be a positive role model by leading a balanced and fulfilling life. I hope to inspire and empower them to live active, healthy lifestyles while giving back to their own families, careers and communities.”

Total Cereal, designed specifically with men’s nutrition in mind, and Men’s Health, the leading magazine for men, joined forces in June 2013 on the quest to find the “Total Guy.” Men were invited to submit themselves or nominate someone for the role through an essay and photo; ten semifinalists were presented on the Men’s Health website for public voting. In conjunction with the votes and semifinalist phone interviews, Total Cereal and Men’s Health selected Tom as the ultimate “Total Guy.”
