If you love finding the perfect fit, cut, and accent piece to show off your best self, you love style. It goes beyond the passing fads of fashion. For me, style is all about having the confidence to look and feel my best and what I wear plays a big part in that role. If I’m wearing a suit, I walk taller, sneakers, I walk with purpose; it all plays into the theatre of life.
I’m always looking for those perfect pieces to compliment my wardrobe. In the industry, we call them the staples. Think of these like the bricks and mortar of a house, you can dress them up anyway you like to create limitless looks. Staples are also where you ought to be investing the most in your closet. With the right care and attention, these can last you years, if not decades.
When Timberland sent me two pieces they thought should be in every man’s collection, I was excited to hear more. I always love getting to know a brand and have been super impressed with their collection to date. You can check out my last review here. They sent a pair of Timberland Oxford Wodehouse shoes and a Skype Peak quilted leather jacket for review.
Timberland Oxford Wodehouse Shoes
Let me preface this by saying, every man should own at least one pair of quality Oxfords. I’m talking real Oxfords that fill you with confidence and make you feel a million bucks. Right out of the box, I loved the Timberland Oxford Wodehouse shoes; the real leather permeated the air, and they have a distinct worn-in look that is really appealing.
I could easily buy this shoe in all three colors (dark russet full grain, dark brown full grain, and black full grain), and you probably should. Oxfords can dress up any outfit and look as stylish in the office as they do paired with a casual dress shirt and jeans. I wore them out on several nights out and got lots of shoe compliments from friends, and was amazed at how soft and comfortable the cushioning is.
Skype Peak Quilted Leather Jacket
Another great staple item is a leather jacket. This is a great transitional piece that can be worn in spring and fall, and that never goes out of style. Team it with a classic white shirt and jeans for that James Dean bad boy look, or wear it over a suit on your morning commute. Leather jackets are incredibly forgiving and also add just the right statement to a boring outfit. I always grab mine when going out for drinks.
The Timberland Skype Peak quilted leather jacket happens to be a really excellent jacket, and I own a few. None seem to fit like this one does; it has a unique slim fit that is super flattering and lots of built in pocket space. The vintage cow leather look is done just right and doesn’t look cheap. It’s all in the details, and this jacket has many. From the edging to the shoulder patches, this jacket is a winner.
The Male Standard Verdict
When it comes to quality staples, I know I can count on Timberland to deliver. Their price is always on point, and I’m continually amazed at the quality of craftsmanship on offer. What you see on screen is really what you get in real life, and make for wise investments. If you only want to splurge on two items this summer, take it from me, you won’t be sorry if you choose these shoes and jackets.
The leather is made from Timberland are rated silver or higher, meaning they use the best leather out there. What I love, however, is that their tanneries also use environmentally means and are approved by the Leather Working Group, who judges and classifies tanneries based on energy use, waste production, and water treatment. So if you are stylish and sentimentally conscious, you’re in for a treat!
