One of the things we love most about California is the fantastic year round weather. It’s one of the few places that owning a convertible makes sense. So when Chevrolet reached out to invite us to test drive the 2015 Corvette Stingray, our response was, “Do we ever!” As one of the most iconic brands in creation, the 2015 Stingray is a beauty and a beast! It’s easy to see why, featuring lightweight, carbon-nano-fiber components and a 460 horsepower LT1 engine, every element of the new Stingray is sharp and sleek. It’s ultra lightweight, ultra fast, and a packs a huge dose of fun.

Now, before we start, we have a confession to make. Muscle cars can be take it or leave it. Many fall behind when expectations aren’t met and much like a beautiful woman, looks will only get you so far. You need brains, and in this case, something special behind the wheel to capture our attention. Thankfully, the Stingray did not disappoint and was easily the best muscle car we have had the pleasure of driving and is way more fun than many cars twice or triple it’s asking price. And we’re not just saying that for fodder. This car has a primal, blood thirsty drive that is the whole reason we fell in love with cars to begin with.
2015 Stingray: First Impressions
From the moment the engine kicks in, you feel the primal roar of the Stingray in your chest. Immediately you look around, wondering if someone is going to burst onto the scene telling you to get off the road and onto a racetrack. While they proudly tell you the Stingray is at home on the track as it is on the roads, what we weren’t anticipating is how many people genuinely stop what they are doing and will gawk at the Stingray. And we’re not talking your neighbors Prius either. Other more expensive supercars tailed us on the roads to get a good look at the Stingray, because it’s one of few showstoppers left.

For our test drove, we choose the paint finish Arctic White, which is an edgy yet appropriate color choice. It is classy, not ostentatious, and retains a sense of badassery without feeling OTT. On day 1 we started near Laguna Beach, home to some of the most beautiful cars in the world, and we felt totally at home cruising around the small lanes and enjoying the view. At the weekend, we packed luggage to see what practicality the Stingray holds as a family car and was surprised to find it passes as a sedan. While it has coupe-like handling, we had enough space to pack and drive to Palm Springs comfortably.
It also gave us an opportunity to stretch the Stingray’s legs, where we got a sense of the real power this horse is packing. At the end of the day, a car can be as attractive, practical, and fun as it likes, but to claim the title of a muscle car it needs brute power. The Stingray packs 460 horsepower with a V8 VTT with direct injection. This means when you stomp on the gas you get an immediate uptake. This adds to the badass vibes and made us quiver like schoolboys. What we weren’t expecting were luxuries such as a complete interior, fitted with 4G LTE WiFi and Bose sound system to name a few.
2015 Stingray: Lasting Impressions
If you’re in the business of looking for a showstopping sports car that has power, precision, and an affordable price bracket we dare you to look further than the Stingray. It’s packed with exciting features and delivers on what matters — performance, precision, and power that generations have come to respect. The Stingray is also practical, makes a great high end daily driver, and won’t leave you feeling like a show off when you just want to appreciate the open road. We had so much fun rediscovering our love of driving and the Stingray truly is a car for enthusiasts.
We drove the Stingray everywhere from the iconic In and Out diner to the Morongo Casino and felt at home at both. When we pulled into the Hard Rock, Valey drivers were rubber-necking the Stingray hard, proving t still has what it takes. If you haven’t been a muscle car fan or not a Stingray fan, in general, then we do recommend checking out the newer, more masculine body shape, which is giving way to a new generation of ‘Vette fans. You might be surprised to awaken a beast you didn’t know existed, and if you see one f these in your rear view mirror, just know that Stingray is pronounced “wow!”
