The Greenbrier, the classic American destination resort in West Virginia’s Allegheny Mountains, is dedicating the fourth installment of its first annual Discovery Series weekends to the culinary arts. From February 7th through February 9th, The Greenbrier’s Executive Chef Bryan Skelding will host a weekend focusing on all things food, from a hands-on chocolate experience to etiquette classes, and from a five-course wine dinner to a behind-the-scenes kitchen tour.
- Lectures and demo topics will include “Meet the Candy Maker,” “Brilliant Brunch for a Bunch” and “SUPER Foods You Can Use” by Connie Gottshall, R.D. with The Greenbrier Clinic. Becky Pitts will be teaching classes on dining etiquette in the north parlor daily.
- The Greenbrier’s wine director and sommelier, Brian W. McClure, will offer a special wine and cheese tasting featuring Virginia wines in the Prime 44 Vineyard.
- The “Virginia Might be for Lovers, But We Have Their Wine!” Wine Dinner in Prime 44 West’s private dining room will consist of a five-course dinner and wine pairing highlighting some of the best Virginia wines.
- Dr. Robert Conte, resident historian at The Greenbrier, will present “Culinary History at The Greenbrier” on the resort’s rich history in food and food culture.
- Shane Kearns, author of Melt: 100 Amazing Adventures in Grilled Cheese, will be signing copies of his cookbook at The Greenbrier Gourmet.
- At “The Chocolate Experience,” guests will learn to make chocolate truffles out of various types of chocolate, and each will leave with his or her own box of handmade truffles, recipes and a few extras.
- At the coffee “cupping” (or tasting) with Royal Cup Coffee in the Garden Room of The Greenbrier’s upper lobby, guests can stop by to taste a variety of hand-crafted coffees.
The Greenbrier Discovery Series is a collection of eight themed weekend events hosted by industry personalities such as: design guru Carleton Varney, Curator of The Greenbrier; a team from the hit PBS show, ANTIQUES ROADSHOW and Monte Durham, celebrity wedding consultant and fashion director of Say Yes to the Dress: Atlanta.
