The Lazy Guy’s Guide to Grooming

Even if you work from home, or don’t work at all, you should still take care of yourself.  Having a basic grooming routine will make you feel more relaxed and confident.  It will also show others that you care about how you look.  This doesn’t mean that you’re full of yourself or need to spend a lot of time or money on your look. Caring about how you look merely means that you are a self-assured man.  Even if you aren’t, projecting that image to others is the first move.  So how do you do that?  A basic grooming routine is the easiest step you can take, and I am going to lay one out for you.

Here’s a simple grooming routine to get you started:

1.  Shower every day

We talk a lot here about moisturizing, toning and using tons of different products in the shower and afterwards.  I am going to make it very simple for you.  Buy a 2-in-1 shampoo and conditioner for your hair type.  Use it.  Get a body wash for your skin type.  Use it.  I do recommend using a moisturizer on your face after you shower.  It will help you maintain healthy skin, especially if your skin is oily.

Want to make your grooming routine even easier?  Shave while you’re in the shower.  To do this you are going to need to buy a fogless shower mirror.

Products to try:

2.  Brush your teeth twice a day

I hope you already do this. Just in case you don’t, though, I wanted to let you know that you should be brushing.  You really should be flossing and using mouthwash daily as well.

3.  Use suntan lotion when you go outside

I’ve talked about this a lot before, and that’s because it’s extremely important.  I know sunscreen can be extremely annoying to apply and reapply, but you really need it (especially you pale guys!).  If you want something easy, use spray-on sunscreen.  It takes less than half the time of the rub-in kind and there’s no mess because you don’t have to rub it in.

It’s been said that you’re at a higher risk for skin cancer if you’ve had as little as five bad sunburns in your lifetime.  Of course, we’re talking lobster burns here, not just a little pinkness on your nose.  But speaking from experience, I know I’ve neglected sunscreen and had well over five major burns, so don’t make the same mistakes I have.

4.  Keep your hair in check

I’ve mentioned nose and ear hair forests a lot.  They can get pretty gross if you aren’t careful.  If you have a woman in your life, she may help you out with this by complaining, but you single guys really need to make sure you’re checking yourselves out every other day or so.  Maybe your nose forest is the reason you’re still alone.  Okay, that was harsh.  I’m sure you are a wonderful man despite your burgeoning nose jungle.

Note –  Unibrows are bad news too.

5.  Keep your nails clipped and free of dirt

Make sure you trim your nails every other week or so.  Also, if you work in manual labor (or just find that your hands are often dirty) try to clean under your nails every so often.
