I went to Colorado and stayed at the Dude Ranch where I took part in an incredible getaway with Old Spice as part of their new #SmellEm campaign. It made the perfect backdrop to learn about their Old Spice Red Zone Collection, which contains everything a man needs to transform from unfresh men into legends of confidence. The Red Zone Collection also introduced their newest scent, Desperado, on this trip. Old Spice wanted to show me who they have been working with too; spoiler alert, there is a new Old Spice guy, Alberto Cardenas, and he is awesome. You’ll get to meet him soon. I got to hang out with other influencers and caught up with Alberto Cardenas to find out what drew him to Old Spice and why he empowers men by teaching them how to be more confident.
To get us into the cowboy spirit, I went to a #SmellEm Hat Swap. This is where we got to choose our hat that we would keep handy throughout our trip. It was really cool learning about the history of cowboy hats and how they make them often by hand. After we got decked out in jeans and our new cowboy hats, I went to dinner, where we had a surprise trick rope performance from “Desperado Kid,” who was awesome.
If you think that cowboys have a coffee maker, think again. In the morning, we were led outside, where a woman was waiting with a stainless steel pot sitting in a fire pit. I made my way to the fire pit and watched as she crafted my ‘cowboy coffee’ by heating up a new steel mug and mixing my coffee. It was a really cool experience, and the coffee was unlike anything I’ve tried. The experience really gave me a new perspective on the day ahead. It made me realize that you can always step it up and demand more; you don’t have to settle.
Another cool activity was the #SmellEm Behind the Scenes Session, where I got to meet and interview the new face of Old Spice. I was amazed at how down to earth Alberto Cardenas was, and he genuinely cares about impacting men’s lives through the Old Spice platform. I highly recommend following Alberto on social media, you can find him on Twitter and Instagram @alberto_cariv.
The crew also went out on a #SmellEm Desperado Group Horse Ride, where I got to go out on a 2 hour ride. It was really fun. To keep us in the cowboy frame of mind, we were invited to take on a host of challenges throughout our getaway. These included trapshooting, axe throwing, archery, and fly fishing; I was excited to try something new. However, I didn’t know that I would hook my eye while fly-fishing. In true cowboy spirit, we didn’t let that stop the fun, I had a double whisky and it became a great bonding moment.
The #SmellEm Highlights Reel
One of my trip highlights was watching the Jingle Run. This is when 200 horses come running back in from pasture. It was just an incredible experience. The scenery, seeing the power of the horses as they drove in across the land was something I will always remember. It was also oddly relaxing, and I can see where cowboys get their quiet confidence. You feel one with the land. It’s so unlike the hustle and bustle energy of a big city.
Another trip highlight was touring the Rocky Mountains. People tell you they are beautiful, but until you are there, you really have no idea. The whole trip featured impressive mountain scenery, but going into the Rockies is something I’ll never forget. It felt like stepping into another world and was incredible. The feeling of being on top of the world was said by many people that day. If you have a trip on your bucket list that has been sliding, I highly recommend doing whatever you need to do to go.
I think, for me, the best moment was the cookout at the end of my trip. We took a tractor ride to our location, and I was blown away by the incredible views as we ate in front of the sunset, just like cowboys, and enjoyed a night of mingling and even some singing. I bonded with the amazing people on our trip, and had a blast hanging out against one of the most impressive views I’ve seen. And, as no vacation is complete without some photos, so we took part in the #SmellEm Swagger Outdoor Photo Booth, where you can see some of the rugged terrain in Colorado behind me.
The Male Standard Verdict
All in all, this was one of the best trips I’ve been on, so thank you Old Spice. Getting away taught me so many life lessons, like surrounding yourself with great people, try something new, pushing yourself out of your comfort zone. When you do these things, something amazing happens. You discover what you are really made of, and you gain grit, what cowboys have in buckets. Grit also translates to confidence. When you are prepared and ready to take on the world, it’s impossible for anything to stop you.
This is why I also use Old Spice deodorant and body wash products. Being a cowboy is hard work, from being out on the ranch to the long days constantly on your feet, you want to feel dry and prepared for what the world has to offer. Being confident is a combination of walking the walk and talking the talk; if you only do one, you will feel like a fraud. Instead, you have to put your best foot forward and go the extra mile, but you will be rewarded.
