As a travel MANager, I was hand selected to help you prepare and plan the perfect getaway, but that doesn’t mean I’m immune from travel blunders. I’m not talking about your deodorant exploding in your bag or failing TSA, as often happens, but an experience that makes you totally doubt the rest of your trip for one very long moment. An experience you may live to regret.
For me, that moment was when I reached into my pocket at the airport, ready to travel home when I grabbed fresh air. I looked to my wife, who was looking back at me expectantly. We stood in the airport as the realization dawned on me that I had somehow managed to lose our passports, one of the most important documents anyone needs when travelling.
After some very quick thinking, and a few anxious calls to the embassy, we managed to get copies of our passports issued so we could fly. I’ve since replaced my passport, but now, I always carry a scanned copy with me in a different set of luggage should disaster strike again. I will never forget how much panic I felt at that moment, or how embarrassed I was I made such a rookie mistake, but hey, that’s life, right?
