We Taste Test The New Jim Beam Double Oak Whiskey

Whiskey lovers rejoice, Jim Beam has announced a new bottling to its collection, which boasts a rich and intense “double” flavor. The Jim Beam Double Oak is a deep golden yellow with a hint of amber, and the nose is full of heady and intense aromas. There are immediate notes of vanilla, toffee, and oaky wood spices. Underneath are further aromas of bitter orange peel, burnt caramel, and cinnamon.

As the name suggests, Jim Beam Double Oak is crafted twice. This is what gives it such a bold and confident flavor. Jim Beam Double Oak is first aged in charred American white oak barrels, then they pour it into another freshly charred barrel to mature for a second time. The added interaction with the oak wood results in a liquid intense in flavor, smooth in taste.

Jim Beam Double Oak is joining Beam’s permanent lineup in September, and we got a preview of the new juice to give it a full review. Here’s what you can expect to discover:

Keep reading if you are as intrigued as we were to discover what the double barreling process has to offer and if this is a whiskey you should be adding to your collection shortly.

New – Jim Bean Double Oak

The Beam family bestow a long tradition of producing quality whiskey, with their first distillery dating back to 1795. This was founded in Washington County, Kentucky by Jacob Boehm, a German immigrant who later Americanized his name to Jim Beam. The current distillery is located in Clermont, KY, and was founded in 1933 after prohibition ended.

If you love bold whiskeys, then this is one you will want to add to your wish list. The intensity increases two-fold on the tongue. First, the soft and sugary notes – think of fudge, toffee, and butterscotch – and then something a bit darker, which is most reminiscent of the slightly burnt caramel from the nose, and which adds further depth and structure, along with some vanilla pod.

The Male Standard Verdict

The Jim Beam Double Oak is an exciting addition to the Beam family and boasts bold flavor that will add new and dynamic tasting notes to your favorite cocktails. This is not for the faint of heart, and unless you appreciate an intense whiskey, we recommend skipping this one neat and instead complimenting on the sweetness with your favorite recipes.

Jim Beam is also promoting this whiskey with the tagline “whiskey for everyone,” and we completely agree. It has an affordable price point for a quality whiskey that will give you a lot of diversity and interest. This is one we confidently recommend you add to your collection as it complements the everyday as much as a special occasion.

The Jim Beam Double Oak is bottled at 43% ABV and will launch in September. We would love to know if you give it a spin!
